2012 Centennial Community Fund Winner's Project Highlights

Fluor is proud of our employee's volunteer efforts in support of our local communities.

The Family Place Nature Classroom

During 2012, Fluor employees volunteered to plan and build the Nature Classroom at the Family Place, a safe house for victims of family violence. The Nature Classroom included multiple play areas, a bubbling rock feature, and a boulder gathering place. Along with providing an outdoor learning environment for children to promote healthy growth and development, Fluor employees also donated toiletries, coats, gloves, hats, and over $10,000 through the Employee Giving campaign.

Building Homes for Gawad Kalinga

Gawad Kalinga, a Filipino term meaning “to give care,” employs a holistic approach aimed at ending poverty through addressing the social, physical, and financial aspects of poverty. With the donation from Fluor, volunteers participated in a housing project for the Sunshineville Gawad Kalinga (GK) Community. The grant provided for the building of four houses for families of the GK communities.

Mahavir International Health Check-ups at Their Door Step

Doctors at the Door Step organizes health check-up camps in remote areas to provide medical care to marginalized populations. With Fluor’s support, a team of medical professionals with a well-equipped mobile medi-care unit provided free medical services and medicines. Through Fluor’s sponsorship Doctors at the Door Step organized and provided care at 22 health check-up sites.

Packing Food for Kids around the World

In June 2012, 240 Fluor volunteers gathered to pack 40,000 meals in four hours at two Southern California offices. The Fluor Centennial Project with Kids around the World helped to provide a healthier environment for children most in need.

Planting Trees with Trees for Houston

Fluor volunteers partnered with Trees for Houston to provide an educational program at Palmer Elementary focused on environmental protection. In addition to the educational program Trees for Houston provided 30 trees native to Texas, which were planted by Fluor volunteers and Palmer Elementary students.

Building a Greenhouse for Project Host

The Project Host Soup Kitchen trains unemployed individuals in the culinary profession. The meals prepared provide 350 meals every day to the Feeding Hungry Children Project as well as the 175 people who look to the Soup Kitchen for a meal. In 2012, Fluor employees volunteered their time to build a greenhouse for Project Host so Project Host could in turn provide the community with locally grown, nutritious food.

Helping Children with Cancer with Fundación Nuestros Hijos

Fluor volunteers from Fluor’s Santiago office helped remodel 22 houses during 2012. The remodeling provided a safer space for children to return home to after their successful completion of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

New Sanitation Facilities for Welfare Society for Hearing and Speech Impaired

Fluor employees helped construct the new sanitation facilities for the Haryana Welfare Center for the Hearing and Speech Impaired. Fluor’s support provided additional toilet facilities, bathing rooms, a small open green space and playground, and allowed for the renovation of existing washroom and living room cupboards. More than 250 students were served by the new construction and renovations of the sanitation facilities.

Planting Trees for the Million Tree Project

With the support from the Fluor Centennial Community Fund, Fluor volunteers planted 8,170 trees in Inner Mongolia. The Fluor forest encourages planting, caring, and maintaining natural resources to protect the land in Kulun Qi from over-farming and over-grazing.

Safe Harbor New Computer Lab and Library

The Fluor Centennial Community Fund provided the much needed support to construct computer labs at two of their locations. The computer labs and library provide a space for women to learn the computer skills, training, and online education necessary for employment.
